Wayland 'Gem'
One of the coolest events for high school basketball occurred Dec. 16 when UK-bound Travis Perry and Lyon County journeyed deep into the east Kentucky mountains to play a throwback back at historic Wayland Gym, home of prep legend "King" Kelly Coleman. It was Perry who broke Coleman's 67-old-year record to become the state's new all-time scoring champion, and on this magical night Perry played on the same court once graced by the king himself.
The 20-page tribute includes reaction from Perry and his teammates about the opportunity, the project to rescue the gymnasium from ruin, a look at the history of the building built in 1937 and its many quirky features, and a deep look at the legend himself, "King" Kelly Coleman.
Cost is just $5 ($2.99 cover price plus postage). Great collectible, but supplies are limited.

Joe B. Hall Tribute issue
The Jan. 22, 2022, issue of The Cats' Pause glossy magazine pays tribute to former Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall, who died Jan. 15 at the age of 93.
Unlike any issue in the magazine's 46-year history, the first 26 pages are dedicated solely to the memory of Hall. Included are rare comments from the coach about his life growing up in Cynthiana, his decision to move into coaching and how he met Katharine, his wife of 55 years. We also go way behind the scenes on two of Hall's greatest coaching moments – the 1975 and '78 seasons, including the boldest move in the history of coaching. The issue also features many rare photos of Hall depicting the man, not the coach.
Cover price $2.99 plus postage included for $6 total.
